Many travellers journey from far and wide to the small village of Eidfjord to experience Vøringsfossen – one of Norway’s most iconic and spectacular waterfalls. Another popular attraction in the area is Norwegian Nature Centre. On this tour, we’ve made it easy for you to enjoy both in one seamless experience.
First stop: Norwegian Nature Centre
The tour begins in Eidfjord, just outside the Tourist Information office. After approximately 10 minutes by bus, you’ll arrive at Norwegian Nature Centre – a modern and interactive visitor centre in the heart of Hardanger.
Your visit starts with an impressive panoramic film that takes you through the stunning Hardanger landscape across all four seasons – a wonderful introduction to the nature and surroundings you’re about to explore. After the film, you’re free to discover the interactive exhibition at your own pace, learning more about Norwegian nature, climate and geology in an engaging and accessible way.
Next stop: Vøringsfossen
From Norwegian Nature Centre, the journey continues up the dramatic and steep Måbødalen valley. Four modern tunnels bring you safely up to the plateau 750 metres above sea level, where Vøringsfossen plunges dramatically into the gorge below.
You’ll experience the waterfall from several spectacular viewpoints, and the bus stops close to the most impressive vantage point. Here, you truly feel the power of nature. If you’re feeling brave, you can cross the gorge via the famous stair bridge with its 99 steps – a unique experience offering remarkable views of both the waterfall and the surrounding landscape.
You’ll have around one hour to wander, take photographs and enjoy the scenery before the bus takes you back to Eidfjord.

FAQ
Where can I buy tickets?
You can easily reserve your seat directly on this page, so your ticket is ready before departure. Tickets can also be purchased at the Eidfjord Tourist Office. Book Hardanger is a local non-profit organisation working to support local value creation and a more sustainable community.
Is the tour suitable for children?
Norwegian Nature Centre offers interactive exhibitions, films and activities suitable for children of all ages.
The area around Vøringsfossen is also exciting for children, with paths, bridges, viewpoints and benches to explore. The area is well secured, but due to the significant height and steep terrain, children must always be accompanied by a responsible adult.
Please see the practical information section (to the right) for details on the proper safety requirements for children travelling on the bus.
Is the tour suitable for wheelchair users?
Norwegian Nature Centre is fully accessible, with lifts, ramps and accessible toilet facilities.
At Vøringsfossen, the main path from the bus stop to the most popular viewpoint is wheelchair accessible, and some viewing platforms are adapted for wheelchair users. Steeper sections and side paths are unfortunately not suitable. There is an accessible toilet in the toilet building by the bus stop.
Is there a café on site?
Yes. At Norwegian Nature Centre you’ll find a restaurant serving warm, locally inspired lunch dishes, cakes, snacks and coffee.
At Vøringsfossen, during the main season, you can visit the historic Fossli Hotel, which is particularly well known for its traditional waffles.
What should I wear?
Your visit to Norwegian Nature Centre takes place indoors. However, Vøringsfossen is located 750 metres above sea level, near Hardangervidda, where the weather can change quickly. We therefore recommend bringing warm, windproof and waterproof clothing, as well as sturdy shoes with good grip – even in summer if the forecast suggests it.
Please note
The exhibition at Norwegian Nature Centre is available in the following languages: Norwegian, English, German, French, Dutch, Spanish, Italian, Russian, Polish, Portuguese, Korean, Japanese and Chinese.
The bus journey takes approximately 25 minutes each way, and you will have around 60 minutes at Vøringsfossen.
Return from Vøringsfossen to Eidfjord from the same location where the bus dropped you off, look for the Book Hardanger sign. Please be at the meeting point 10 minutes before departure.
