A small group tour is the perfect way to explore Eidfjord and its surroundings. This tour takes you to the incredible Vøringsfossen Waterfall – a must-see when you are here.
The waterfall plunges 182 metres from the Hardangervidda mountain plateau into the Måbødalen valley. And speaking of Måbødalen, the views of the canyon are quite spectacular too.
At Vøringsfossen, you have 1 hour to walk around and explore the waterfall from different angles. Here are walkways and viewpoints accessible to everyone and trails for further exploration for those who wish.
Vøringsfossen in April
Vøringsfossen is located 700 meters above sea level, please note that there may still be snow and slippery conditions in the mountains in April. Enter at your own risk. Dress appropriately with warm clothes and sturdy shoes. See video from 26. March
FAQ
What’s the difference between a small-group tour and other trips to Vøringsfossen?
On a small-group tour you travel in a group of just 4–8 people. The tour runs by taxi, giving you a more flexible visit than a standard bus excursion.
You may start at the top viewpoint, walk across the spectacular stepped bridge over the waterfall, and then be picked up at Fossatromma (the large car park below). Or do the route the other way around — simply agree with your taxidriver beforehand.
Otherwise, the tour runs along the same route as other bus tours. Besides visiting Vøringsfossen, you’ll also travel through the dramatic Måbødalen valley, where the road climbs through four winding tunnels up to 750 metres above sea level, surrounded by steep mountain walls.
Where can I buy tickets?
You can easily book your seat on this page and have your ticket ready before departure.
Check the calendar for available dates — tours usually run on cruise ship days when taxi capacity is higher.
If there are available seats, tickets may also be purchased at the Eidfjord Tourist Office.
Book Hardanger is a local non-profit organisation working to support local value creation and sustainable tourism.
Does the tour include the Norwegian Nature Centre?
This tour does not stop at the Norwegian Nature Centre. Alternatives are local bus or private small-group taxi tour (subject to availability, usually on cruise days)
During the main season, a daily bus from Eidfjord stops at both the Nature Centre and Vøringsfossen, see more: Vøringsfossen Waterfall and Norwegian Nature Centre.
Is the tour suitable for strollers or wheelchairs?
Yes — parts of the Vøringsfossen area are accessible, including the main path from the bus stop to the main viewpoint. Some steeper sections and side trails are less suitable.
Please let us know in advance if you need a wheelchair-friendly vehicle so we can reserve the correct taxi.
Also inform us if travelling with small children so we can provide childseats.
Do we stop at Fossli Hotel?
Yes. The taxi stops at the bus stop right next to the historic Fossli Hotel — just steps from the best viewpoint of the waterfall. The hotel is also famous for its waffles and homemade cakes.
When is the best time to visit?
Spring, summer and autumn (May–October) offer the best experience, with strong water flow and open viewpoints. In winter, parts of the waterfall may freeze and some areas can be closed due to snow and ice.
What should I wear?
Vøringsfossen sits at 750 metres above sea level at the gateway to the Hardangervidda plateau, and weather changes quickly.
Bring warm, windproof and waterproof clothing, plus sturdy footwear with good grip — even in summer if conditions require.
Where do I meet the taxi?
The taxi waits near Eidfjord Tourist Office — near the median strip between Coop and Vøringfoss Hotel.
Is there guiding onboard?
Yes — your ticket includes access to an audio guide you can listen to on your phone during the journey.
Please note!
